Descripción: | Picture taken on the 20th January 2007 on Abies alba bark close to the Turó del Home, Montseny, Barcelona, 1.600 meters altitude, when the road crosses the Abies alba forest. It is a very common lichen in all Europe, Spain and Catalonia. On trees with enriched bark. It reminds me the drawings of "The Observer´s Book of Lichens" by Kenneth Alvin, one of the first books I red on lichens and still very useful for beginners. Foliose lichen, corticolous , small, thallus grey-whitish, no pseudocyphella (white dots), lobes thin and with not so long marginal bristles as Physcia adscendens, showing at the end lip-shaped upturned soralia. It differs from Physcia adscendens because the latter has helmet-like lobe tips. Apothecia not seen, when present very small. Cortex K+ yellow, C-,P- Medulla K- Intermedial sensitivity to pollution.
