Picture taken on the 24th February 2007, on schists, at Turó Catiu d'Or, Montseny, Barcelona, 1.660 m. horizontal, windy place.
Lichen common, on sedimentary rocks and acid rocks, saxicolous, from the seaside to the high mountains, all around Europe. In Catalonia it has been found basically trough the littoral range montains, Montseny and the Pyrenees.
Crustose, thallus areolated, areoles angled (ssp. contorta rounded), colour from ochre to grey or even brown, always with a green faint, upper surface scarfy. Apothecia partially immersed, lecanorine, disc black but with a white-bluish look due to a thick pruina.
