Bacidia rubella

Image Details

Descripción: Picture taken on the 3th of March 2007, near Hotel Avet Blau, Santa Fe, Montseny, Barcelona, on Fagus sylvatica, 1300 m. altitude.

Corticolous lichen distributed in the South and SW of Europe. It has been found in Catalonia in several places on Fagus, Quercus, Castanea, etc., Vall d'Aran, Ports, Alt Camp, Montseny.

Corticicolous, crustose lichen, thallus grey-greenish, granulated, cortex with very tiny crystals, KOH soluble.Apothecia numerous, protruding, lecanorine, from orange to brick-red, flat disc when young becoming convex, even very convex when old.

B. fraxinea and B. parathalassica are similar, but they do not have a granulous thallus.

I suggest reading the these of Dr. Esteve Llop Vallverdú on Bacidiaceae ("La familia Bacidiaceae a la Península Ibèrica i les Illes Balears. Els gèneres Bacidia i Bacidina"). Available through internet , TEX theses service (http://www.tdx.cesca.es).
See pictures in page 168.

K+ yellowish-brown, the rest of the spot reactions negative.

It seems sensitive to pollution.

Molt bona

Mai m'havia fixat en un liquen tan vermell, que contrasta tant amb l'escorça del faig. M'hauré de passejar més per la part mitjana i alta del Montseny. Molt maca la captura. Felicitats.

Molt interessant l'explicació.
