Image Details
Descripción:
Picture taken on the 1st July 2007 near Cala Malaret, between Aiguablava and Fornells, on pegmatitic granodiorites, siliceous rocks, vertical position, South oriented, 15 m. altitude, near the sea.
Both Diploschistes scruposus and Pertusaria corallina are frequent lichens in Catalonia and all Europe.
Diploschistes scruposus has been already been mentioned in this virtual guide. Pertusaria corallina has isidia with the tips white. Near the coast it is more frequent the presence of Pertusaria pseudocorallina , but the thallus is more gray and the tips of the isidia are brown and generally shorter. Sometimes both especies live together.
Pertusaria pseudocorallina has been mentioned at Medes Isles by Drs. Llimona, Hladun and Gomez.
TLC (Thin layer cromatography) is very useful to clearly separate these especies.
Do not mistake Diploschistes scruposus with Ochrolechia parella.
