Picture taken on the 2/02/2008 near Sant Joan ermitage, above Montserrat abbey, Barcelona, Catalonia, on conglomerates with calcareous cement.
Frequent and very widespread, cosmopolitan on well-lit calcareous soils.
Squamulous thallus, not so adpressed to substratum as P. squamulosum and biger in size, up to 9 mm, sometimes imbricate.
Chestnut to reddish. Perithecia completely immersed in the thallus, like black dots. Less lobed than Heteroplacidium imbricatum.
