Pictur etaken during the summer at Targasonne, Oriental Pyrenees, Alta Cerdanya, France, on a granite boulder, 1.600 m. altitude.
Lichen very variable in form but with a more or less constant colour that give it the name "torrefacta". Thallus single-lobed, but very contorted, dark brown (almost black), the surface is tessellated. Apothecia gyrose.
Medulla: K+ yellow, C+ red.
