Picture taken on the 8th December 2007 near Sant Marçal Ermitage, Montseny,Barcelona.

Ochrolechia parella appears on granites, in very exposed and well.lit places. Apothecia max. 3 mm, with dense white pruina. Ochrolechia tartarea is bigger and without pruina in the apothecia.

Catapyrenium squamulosus has small squamules, les than 5 mms, thallus reddish, adpressed, margins not upturned upwards like in Catapyrenium rufescens and Catapyrenium lachneum (both are larger) and Catapyrenium pilosellum. Perithecia immersed laminally in the thallus.
It has a large European distribution, looking for the humidity in crevices. Catapyrenium rufescens is more common in the Mediterranean areas.

See a good picture in F. Dobson, Lichens, pag 114. Compare with C. rufescens, good image in Fongs i Liquens, Historia Natural dels Països Catalans, Enciclopedia Catalana, pag.452 and with C. lachneum in

the last two pictures by Dr. Nestor Hladun.

No spot reactions.
