It is a common lichen in certain parts of our coast, both on siliceous and calcareous rock and on trees. This liquen was used for wool dying. It gives a purple colour. Long time ago in Catalonia and Mallorca existed "orxellaires" devoted to this activity. The lichen was called "orxella".
Fruticose lichen, with green-grey cylindric branches (lacinia). Tall from 1 to 5 cms. With evident soralia, with whitish soredia.
